To bring their bilateral relations back on track, India and Bangladesh flagged off the Maitree (Friendship) Express on April 14, 2008 after more than four decades, coinciding with the Bangla new year. The two countries had suspended cross-border passenger rail service after the 1965 Indo-Pak war.

The latest analysis from Delhi based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) warns of critical levels of air pollution in the capital. The exponential growth of private vehicles, particularly diesel ones, has defeated the gains from its earlier CNG drive when diesel buses in the city were phased out to check pollution.

A new report from UNDP uses the Oil Price Vulnerability Index (OPVI) to measure the brunt of rising oil prices on Asias poor. While India may fare better than its neighbours in its ability to absorb oil price shocks, a continued rise could have an adverse impact on the regions gains on MDGs, the report warns.
