Reaffirming its commitment to child rights, CRY America has changed its name to Child Rights and You America Inc. The change was announced at a media conference at the Altman building in New York.Addressing the media, Shefali Sunderlal, President, CRY America said, "While the relief approach addresses the symptoms, the rights approach looks at why the problem exists and addresses its root causes".

Uruguayan Vice President Rodolfo Nin Novoa inaugurated a meeting of Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP), a worldwide coalition of civil society organisations lobbying governments to eradicate poverty, with a call to the campaign to help bring down poverty and a promise to halve Uruguayan poverty levels by 2015.

Economic development is closely associated with poverty reduction in many countries. It is also believed that increased income levels lead to improved health, education and living standards. However, development experiences show that there is no automatic link between increased per capita income and reduction in poverty levels.

The government has received more than 75 percent of foreign aid out of the Rs.100 billion anticipated for the year 2007 with the signing of agreements to receive Rs.72 billion within the first four months of the year. The enormous increase in the proportion and number of self-employed workers in India in recent years is still not adequately analysed.Prof.C.P Chandrasekhar and Prof.Jayati Ghosh argue that rising trend of self-employment reflects the precarious conditions of labour markets in India, where paid employment is simply not increasing fast enough to meet the needs of the growing labour force.
