SAN FRANCISCO, Jul 26 (OneWorld) - Despite a 46-year effort to eradicate poverty, hunger remains a problem in many parts of the world, says a new report arguing that a re-think of political priorities in the United States and elsewhere could boost efforts to get food to hungry people around the globe.

In the recent past, intellectual patent laws, copyright regimes and trademarks have suddenly pervaded many spheres of existence. While they are discussed and debated at "intellectual " "scientific" and "business forums", they have an impact at every level. With rapid globalization this impact is likely to spread wider and deeper. This paper tries to examine the effect of such regimes on biodiversity related knowledge systems and possible ways of creating open knowledge systems, which would genuinely benefit the poor and the marginalised.
