The Pakistani government has announced an increase in compensation for survivors whose houses were devastated in the 8 October quake. The survivors could now get up to nearly $2,929 for rebuilding their houses, an increase of about $2,511.

The Taliban has claimed that it has killed the kidnapped Indian driver, Ramankutty Maniappan, who was working with the Indian road constrction organisation - Border Roads Organisation (BRO). The Afghan government and Indian sources say that the fate of the kidnapped driver is still unknown.

Pakistani-American professionals and students held a candle light vigil on Tuesday night to put the spotlight on the earthquake that killed nearly 79,000 in Pakistan and over 1,300 in India. Tuesday was significant as it was the first monthly anniversary of the devastating quake that rendered millions homeless in Kashmir. Work was suspended after the killing of two workers.
