08.09.2006 After unprecedented flooding in the desert state of Rajasthan, a central team is conducting an assessment of the flood situation. The government has announced immediate relief of Rs 3.5 billion for Barmer and Jaisalmer, two districts that were badly hit by the recent floods.

07.09.2006 This autumn, the Global Month of Action will see millions of people in over a hundred countries unite again under the banner of the white band, as they stand up against poverty and renew the call for trade justice, debt cancellation and more and better aid. The Month begins on 14 September, as the IMF and World Bank meet in Singapore, and culminates on 17 October, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, in a Global White Band Day.

01.09.2006 UNICEF has started distributing supplies to families affected by devastating floods in the Mid-Western and Far-Western Regions of Nepal. The Nepal Red Cross Society, UNICEFÂ’s partner in the aid distribution, estimates that some 5,800 households have been affected by flooding in the district of Banke, with a further 5,000 households affected in neighouring Bardiya.
