29.06.2007 Il decreto extragettito approvato ieri dal Consiglio dei Ministri stanzia 260 milioni di euro per il "Fondo Globale per la lotta a Aids, Tubercolosi e Malaria": un impegno del programma pre-elettorale dell'Unione riconfermato pubblicamente in più occasioni dal presidente Prodi, ma finora inattuato. "Una notizia tanto attesa: una promessa mantenuta che da' concretezza all'impegno internazionale dell'Italia e alla sua credibilità" - commenta l'Associazione delle Ong italiane. E anche il Dpef, approvato ieri dal Consiglio dei Ministri, detta un'inversione di tendenza circa l'Aiuto pubblico allo Sviluppo (Aps): "è indifferibile un'azione correttiva volta a innescare una tendenza positiva dell'APS, attraverso un significativo aumento dei relativi stanziamenti con l'intento di avvicinarsi il più possibile all'obiettivo dello 0,51 per cento". Il Dpef chiama i Ministeri competenti (Esteri ed Economia e Finanze) a definire "obiettivi annuali per il triennio 2008-2010".

Lost of life
15.06.2007 The UN is rushing aid to victims of landslides that were triggered by heavy rains in the Chittagong district in east Bangladesh. A government report indicates that large numbers of people have been buried and the figures are expected to rise as rescue workers continue with operations.

G8 summit 2007- a failure
11.06.2007 GCAP sees the G8 summit 2007 as ushering in new global economic apartheid. The coalition of international NGOs also says that the $60 billion that has been pledged may not be honoured as three leaders - Putin, Blair and Bush - may not hold office for very long and their successors may not deliver on these pledges.

Youth for development
01.06.2007 Young participants from the world are gathering for the Junior 8 Summit, an international youth conference in Wismar, Germany, that parallels the G8 Summit in June in Heiligendamm, Germany. The conference of seventy-four young people – eight from each of the G8 countries and ten from developing nations will focus on economic, health and other development issues.
