A rural bank in the west Indian state of Maharashtra, run by illiterate village women, has provided women with a stable livelihood, even during periods of drought. The village women negotiated with a national bank and convinced officials to initiate the bank for the women.

Four doctors and a technician from Afghanistan are in the south Indian metro of Chennai getting training on telemedicine to enable them to reach out to ailing Afghans in rural and farflung areas. The doctors say that there are no facilities to reach out to those in rural areas or to get in touch with specialists in other countries.

UNESCO Bangkok's Assessment, Information Systems, Monitoring and Statistics (AIMS) Unit hosted and trained officials from the Nepal Ministry of Education (MoE) as part of the Flash Report Method on conducting annual school census at the AIMS office, UNESCO Bangkok.

Microsoft India and the Tamil Nadu government on Monday signed an MoU, under which the former will help set up an 'Information Technology academy' in the city to provide comprehensive training programme to nearly 20,000 teachers in the state for a period of five years.

First Equal is India's first online jobs site that caters exclusively to Dalits, the so-called lower classes, and provides them with information on private sector jobs. The site claims to target only the Dalit job-seekers and aims to promote voluntary affirmative action by the Indian corporates.
