The campaign for protection of children and minors from Traffickers in Human Beings was started by the UK based Save the Children organization, has the goal to start a synchronized action for early prevention of trafficking in children.

Save the Children Norway, in cooperation with UNICEF B&H, conducted a survey on trafficking in children in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the activities of the project is the “Lean on Me” theatrical play, written by Bosnian writer Ferida Durakovic. The roles in the play are acted by child-actors younger than 15.

Today, on the National OrphansÂ’ Day in Albania, an initiative was presented by a group of Albanian businessmen to open 460 saving accounts for children without parents and parental care. The ceremony was held at the Congress Palace in Tirana.

Due to outstanding public and Senatorial opposition, Steven Johnson, the nominated EPA Administrator, canceled the intentional pesticide exposure study using babies as subjects. Titled CHEERS, this study, partially funded by the pesticide industry, was slated to use children aged 0-3 as test subjects.

From children abandoned in the streets to shoeshine boys struggling to find a customer and young girls selling their bodies for food and a few pennies, the effects of the AIDS pandemic are visible everywhere in EthiopiaÂ’s capital. Five years ago, social worker Yewoinshet Masresha founded the Hope for Children organization to provide more than just food and shelter for these orphans.

Nicaraguan fruit plantation workers, exposed to the pesticide Nemagon used by Dole, Chiquita, and Del Monte in the 1970s, are today suffering from incurable illness and many of their children were born with horrific deformities. Though the chemical was known to be toxic to humans and banned in the United States, the companies continued to use it in other countries without disclosing the health risks. The workers have never been compensated.

The Children’s Parliament of Macedonia held its fifth simulation session at the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia. At the session, which marked the official closing of the “Days of the Parliament” manifestation, the children adopted the Declaration Against Abuse of Children and the Declaration for Inclusion of Children in the Work of the Local Self-Government.

Where would a mother receive adequate maternity care? Where would a mother see her children delivered by trained health personnel and likely live past the age of one? Which are the best and worst places to be a mother or child? The U.S. was ranked 11th out of 110 countries in the Mother's Index 2005, a yearly report by Save the Children. One of the by-products of the AIDS epidemic sweeping many African nations is the loss of knowledge; for example, with no one to teach them, rural children orphaned at a young age might never learn to farm. But the UN agricultural agency is now taking many of these children under its wings, teaching farming, business, and life skills to ensure another generation is not lost.
