Weeks of heavy rain flooded over 30 percent of the country and left hundreds of homeless in Bangladesh, which is experiencing some of the worst flooding in recent years and terribly affecting day to day life. The estimation shows around 10 percent of the countryÂ’s 80,000 primary schools had been affected due to floods.

International child rights agency, Save the Children has conducted a study to understand minimum standards for the provision of education in Andhra Pradesh, India. The study discovered the problems in the implementation of necessary components as, physical infrastructure, learning process, and community role in effective delivery of quality education.

The Budget allocation for higher and technical education in the country is set to treble in the 11th Five-Year Plan (2007-2012) with the Planning Commission expected to allocate over Rs 26,000 crore, compared to Rs 8,876 crore in the 10th Five-Year Plan.

As part of the new “Knowledge Communities” project, UNESCO Bangkok launched an online ICT-in-Education community: an interactive forum which welcomes educators, teachers, administrators and policy makers and others to share their ideas and opinions on topics relating to the use of ICT in education.

Intel Corp. ties up with three Indian PC vendors, including HCL Infosystems Ltd., Wipro Ltd., and Zenith Computers Ltd to assemble the Classmate PC. The company will start shipping the product to Indian schools in September, 2007 which will be sold only to schools and not through retail channels to consumers.

The basis for the track on Digital Learning at eIndia 2007 was clearly pronounced by the keynote speakers when they spoke of increased outreach and inclusion; transformation of teachers into ‘senior’ learners and facilitators, and students into inquisitive explorers of the digital age; and gearing up of teaching-learning practices to the challenges of a society forty years from today.

WASHINGTON, Aug 5 (OneWorld) - Breastfeeding within the first hour of life can drastically reduce the number of early childhood deaths in developing countries, the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) said this week, adding that more than one third of child deaths occur during "the first fragile month of life."

UNESCO has launched a pilot initiative in Indian capital Delhi to deploy ICTs to address urban poverty and cultural bondage in areas that are characterised by low-income groups, poor civic amenities and lack of opportunities.
