UN Commission on Sustainable Development recently ended a two-year discussion about sustainable energy. In response, the Working Group on Energy and Climate Change of the Citizens Network for Sustainable Development called for the "need to dramatically transform the ways we produce and consume energy in our individual households, communities, regions and nation.”

Solar energy in India
01.05.2007 Life for people in poverty-stricken rural India has been improved by several hours of reliable solar-powered lighting, made available by a UN-led project to facilitate household financing for solar home systems. The project, launched by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) in 2003 in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, has facilitated about 18,000 loans for solar panels over three years
