There is an immense potential to make government services more accessible to everyone with mobile networks covering 70% of worlds population.

The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO has signed an agreement with Inmarsat to further improve and enhance the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System. Once upgraded, there will be minute-by-minute transmission of sea level observation providing more time to sounding alert.

Yet again the US has chosen to go against the UN framework on climate change and instead has put forward a proposal without any binding international commitment. Greenpeace International says its a made-in-the-USA plan for a climate catastrophe.

Teams from India have traveled to east and southern Africa to build capacities and provide training in community-based models to reduce child mortality. UNICEF in its report: Progress for Children launched on December 10, highlights progress in several areas, but also stresses the importance of more urgent action.

The United Nations 'framework convention' on climate change currently going on at Bali, Indonesia is halfway through and yet no breakthrough is in sight, says Anil Netto. The official view, however, is one of optimism that progress has been made in laying the ''building blocks'' for a future agreement.

Rising carbon emissions from developing countries would threaten the world with severe climate change within a single generation, even if rich countries were to stop their own greenhouse gas emissions tomorrow, according to new study by an independent think tank.

The newest official U.S. intelligence review not only contradicts the Bush administration's line on Iranian intentions regarding nuclear weapons, but points to a link between Tehran's 2003 decision to halt research on weaponisation and its decision to negotiate with European foreign ministers on both nuclear and Iranian security concerns.
