In a major crackdown on employment of child labour, a joint team of the State Labour Department, the Delhi police and the non-governmental organisation, Pratham, rescued close to 500 children from illegal zari units in northeast Delhi.

A case study on working conditions in the factories of the Nokia Mobile Phones and its suppliers concludes that Nokia and its suppliers and subcontractors do not fully comply with either Nokia's Code of Conduct or Chinese legislation, neither ILO conventions. The position of contract labour is especially weak.

A law guaranteeing construction workers on federal contracts the prevailing wage of the area in which they are working was suspended for post-Katrina reconstruction projects. The law was recently reinstated after citizens from all over the U.S. sent messages urging Congress to overturn the suspension.

The biggest challenge for the local institutions in Kosovo remains unemployment. More than 315,000 persons are registered as unemployed, which amounts to 40% of the KosovoÂ’s population, reported Kosova Television KTV. More than 46% of them are women, and the number of the registered women has increased for 7,4% during the last 12 months.
