20.11.2006 Union Minister of State for Women & Child Development Renuka Chowdhury wants the ban on child labour eased to allow them to pick up traditional crafts and skills such as carpet-weaving within the family structure. She even says international laws banning purchase of the products of child labour are insensitive to regional issues and that India has signed on to them without thinking through the issues properly.

09.11.2006 The Government proposes to expand the National Child Labour Projects (NCLP) to all districts in the country during the 11th Plan.Announcing this at a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to his Ministry on Wednesday, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes said the NCLPs were in operation in 250 districts in child labour endemic States.
