SAK regards the context of the service directive, approved by the European Parliament, as something good. SAK's chief legal counsel Jorma Rusanen says. "The new directive will facilitate the free movement of services which can be useful also for Finnish service sector companies and employees."

Union Minister of State for Women & Child Development Renuka Chowdhury wants the ban on child labour eased to allow them to pick up traditional crafts and skills such as carpet-weaving within the family structure. She even says international laws banning purchase of the products of child labour are insensitive to regional issues and that India has signed on to them without thinking through the issues properly.

President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam exhorted the construction industry to take up a societal mission to provide dwelling units costing not more than Rs. 1 lakh for the needy in urban and rural areas and wanted the Government to step in by arranging subsidies and hassle-free bank loans for them.

The Government proposes to expand the National Child Labour Projects (NCLP) to all districts in the country during the 11th Plan.Announcing this at a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to his Ministry on Wednesday, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes said the NCLPs were in operation in 250 districts in child labour endemic States.
