21.09.2007 The latest 5th edition of the Key Indicators of the Labour Market (KILM) report, published every other year by the International Labour Organization, makes available labour market information, analysis and key elements. A set of 20 labour market indicators covers the various features of decent work deficits worldwide, keeping in mind the changing labour market conditions.

17.09.2007 IndiaÂ’s first attempt to introduce social security and other welfare schemes for workers in the unorganised sector, which constitutes an overwhelming majority of the countryÂ’s workforce, has received Cabinet approval. But it will have to wait until the winter session of Parliament to be passed into law.

With informal workers constituting more than 92 per cent of the Indian workforce, the NCEUS report highlights that the present government must work to fulfil its promises, under the Common Minimum Program, to ensure decent conditions of work, minimum wages, and promotion employment and enterprise in the unorganised sector.
