A land tax on farms is to be implemented by the Namibian government. The aim of the tax is to address the “land hunger” that persists in Namibia against people who were previously disadvantaged under apartheid. The Namibian government has completed its valuation of the country’s commercial farms as the preliminary step to collection of the tax.

Government and the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) have established a task force to mobilise $13.7 million by March for the expansion of irrigation farming in Zambia. After a good harvest in last farming season. Government is working towards improving the agricultural sector.

The Coordination Body for Protection of the Old Fortress in Skopje (Skopsko Kale) held a press conference today to introduce the press with the current situation with the intention of the US Government to building a new Embassy Building in Gradiste, on Skopsko Kale. At the same time, the Coordination Body announced its campaign to collect signatures for the Petition for permanent protection of the fortress. The campaign will start on Thursday, October 14.

Land is of great importance to many people in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). It provides employment, income and food for large sections of the population. The increasing pressures of population growth and land degradation are intensifying competition for land between different user groups. Further problems are being created by the loss of traditional land rights and unfair land distributions. This is leading to violent conflict between some groups. New land policies and initiatives are being formed throughout the region to try and reduce these conflicts.
