13.11.2007 Human rights body Amnesty International has expressed concern at the recent political violence and displacement of hundreds of local inhabitants in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal. The governmentsÂ’s decision to set up an industrial chemical hub in Nandigram had sparked protests from local communities fearing loss of livelihoods.

13.11.2007 One month after a new national policy on resettlement and rehabilitation was announced, the Indian government has to still make it public. In his scathing critique, Shripad Dharmadhikary, a coordinator of Manthan Adhyayan Kendra, finds many limitations and loopholes in the policy, saying that big industries and developers stand to benefit more than the affected people.

Wheat requires less irrigation with zero tillage method
