17.8 percent of B&H population live in poverty
30.05.2005 A survey, conducted by UK Department of International Development DFID for the needs of the B&H Council of Ministers, shows that the level of poverty in Bosnia and Herzegovina is falling down, but nonetheless, 17.8 percent of the population still lives in poverty.

25.05.2005 Presqu’un an a passé depuis le jugement du Tribunal international de justice à l’effet que la construction du Mur par le gouvernement israélien était illégale. Dans son jugement, le tribunal réclamait de l’ONU des actions concrètes pour mettre fin à cette situation. Mais en pratique, rien n’a été fait.

25.05.2005 Save the Children Norway, in cooperation with UNICEF B&H, conducted a survey on trafficking in children in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the activities of the project is the “Lean on Me” theatrical play, written by Bosnian writer Ferida Durakovic. The roles in the play are acted by child-actors younger than 15.

11.05.2005 "Last year, we registered 68 victims of human trafficking. Of that number, 55 were citizens of Serbia and Montenegro, which proves that our girls can be victims, too. Unfortunately, there is a prevailing opinion in the society that the problem of trafficking in human beings strikes only foreign citizens”, says Aleksandra Jovanovic, the Spokesperson of ASTRA NGO, in the interview for OneWorld SEE. ASTRA is an organization that works on the problem of human trafficking.

09.05.2005 At the annual growth rate of 1.2 percent, world population increased by 76 million people in 2004. Women in developing countries--where access to education and family planning services is limited--added 73 million people, compared to only three million in industrial countries. The U.S. is the only developed country with high birth rate, it accounted for four percent of this year’s global population growth.

Displaced find themselves in a tough situation in SCG

03.05.2005 Depuis le début de l’année, le Soudan vacille entre la guerre et la paix. D’une part, le conflit au Darfour dans l’est du pays risque de s’envenimer. Le gouvernement soudanais en dépit des pressions d’une partie de la communauté internationale tergiverse face à une situation qui prend la forme d’un massacre organisé. D’autre part, depuis la signature en janvier de l’accord dit de « Naivasha » entre le gouvernement soudanais et le principal groupe rebelle, l’Armée de libération du peuple du Soudan (SPLA), les Soudanais et le monde entier espèrent une résolution à cette guerre civile qui perdure depuis plus de 30 ans. Ce n’est malheureusement pas la première fois que le Soudan souffle à la fois le chaud et le froid car à plusieurs reprises, des négociations entre les parties belligérantes sont venues près d’aboutir, sans y arriver complètement.
