The Council for Defense of Human Rights and Freedoms CDHRF, says that the Roma, Ashkalia and Egyptian IDPs, which remain in camps in Northern Kosovo since the end of teh war in Kosovo in 1999, live in extremely difficult conditions, exposed to the high risks to their health presented by high lead presence in their blood. This is nothing new and at the same time known to everyone. But, so far nothing serious has been undertaken to rectify their issue.

Inclusive education is a vital part of discussion on developments in education at both national and international levels. The earlier system of segregated education, or special schools for children with disabilities, was a reflection of care, not rights or entitlements. It is now believed that this should be replaced by inclusive education with emphasis on rights, equal opportunity and participation.

After leading a spirited drive to root out alcoholism and get the government to work for her community in the troubled state of Bihar, she has become the first woman from her community of rat-eaters to address a United Nations convention. Harijans are treated as sub humans and untouchability still persists even after 73 years of formation of HSS. Vast section of society does not seem to be very comfortable with idea of treating Harijans with dignity. Nirmala Deshpande, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) speaks to Ashutosh Bhardwaj.

Under a new constitutional amendment, private schools, colleges, and professional training institutes that operate without government funding will be obliged to set aside more than one-quarter of their seats for students from India's "untouchable" lower castes or Dalits, as well as other socially and economically disadvantaged groups.

On the eve of the one-year anniversary of the dissolution of multiparty democracy in Nepal, the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice (CHRGJ) at New York University School of Law has requested American Senator Patrick Leahy to draw attention to the situation in Nepal, and in particular, the vulnerability of Dalits or so-called untouchables in the conflict.
