07.04.2006 In India, the development programs and public services are usually implemented at village level and most often in main village where non-dalits are living. Generally the dalits are less access to these facilities due to spatial segregation. Moreover, even when the basic facilities were easily available to the dalits, often they were denied or restricted to use those facilities by non-dalits. This situation obviously makes them stay in poverty, illiteracy, and malnutrition.

In this context, the present article tries to understand the theoretical and analytical inter linkages between the spatial inequality and poverty in general and to analyse the nature and pattern of spatial discrimination against dalits in particular through providing with empirical evidences.
