22.10.2004 The informal group of nongovernmental, nonpartisan and nonprofit organizations and global and European student services in Macedonia, Students for Themselves, informed about their intention to boycott the Student Elections for President of the Student Organization of the “Kiril i Metodi” University in Skpoje. The Elections are scheduled for Saturday, October 28, 2004, and the boycott is designed to take away the legitimacy of the nondemocratic students’ organization.

Raed Jarrar’s (26-year old graduate student in architecture) response to the Iraq war was to start a web log to showcase the pluralistic Iraqi society and why “we don’t need someone from the outside to come and solve our problems.” Blogging in a time of war has helped him to turn anger into understanding and, to reach out to Americans and Europeans “so they understand what is happening in Iraq.”

At least 14 Kosovan schoolchildren have died when the bus taking them home from a school holiday in Albania collided with a car and plunged off a bridge. The driver of the car also died in the accident, local authorities said.
Around 50 teenagers, all ethnic Kosovan Albanians, were returning home after visiting historical sites.

The students are dissatisfied with the high tuition fees, inadequate accommodation and lack of transparency in the adaptation of the former military barracks “Vrbas” which will soon become a student dormitory campus.

As the Supreme Court prepares to hear a case that will review the constitutionality of death penalty for juveniles this week, three former surgeons-general joined hundreds of medical and adolescent child development experts to endorse the “Call to Abolish” campaign. Organized by Physicians for Human Rights, the campaign reflects the widespread consensus of the scientific community against the execution of juveniles in the United States.
