Representatives and specialists of Ekolevizja, a group of environmental NGOs visited Elbasan on September 22, 2005. They met with the Mayor of Elbasan, Ardian Turku, the Rector Jani Dode and the Dean Ziso Themollari from the Alexander Xhuvani University. The main purpose of the meeting was to create new collaboration paths with the local government and to provide for the future sustainability of the civil society.

The new owner of Dalmacijacement from Split, the CEMEX international corporation, decided to lay off one hundred workers. The president of the United Trade Unions of Croatia, Ozren Matijasevic, said that the unions tried to fight for preservation of all jobs, but the ownership rejected their efforts.

The Dockyards at Durres, previously named Gdansk and lately Kurum is moving towards bankruptcy, slowly but surely. Since 1998, the only activities going on in the dockyards were the reforms that mainly included the sacking of over 600 workers. At the moment, 215 workers work at Kurum Dockyard, with majority of them waiting to be laid-off while receiving only 50% of their wages.

The police in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu prevented anti-PVC demonstrators from starting their march citing orders from the Madras High court. It was found out later that the court had not passed any such orders and that some PVC companies had given wrong information to the police to stop the march. The march had been organised by farmers and local NGOs.
