Campagna di lotta all'Aids
29.11.2006 "I programmi di lotta all’Aids sono sull'orlo della bancarotta mentre le terapie di nuova generazione restano inaccessibili" - denuncia Medici senza Frontiere (MSF) in un appello per la Giornata Mondiale dell’Aids del primo dicembre. "La lotta all’Aids nei Paesi poveri è destinata al fallimento se le istituzioni internazionali non si impegneranno in modo serio e concreto per risolvere la questione dei costi esorbitanti delle nuove terapie. Cinque mesi fa l’Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità ha pubblicato l’aggiornamento delle linee guida per il trattamento dell’Aids raccomandando l’uso dei farmaci di nuova generazione anche nei Paesi più poveri. Ma nessuna strategia concreta è stata messa in atto per aiutare i Governi dei Paesi più colpiti a procurarsi questi medicinali dal prezzo esorbitante" - riporta MSF. Il rafforzamento delle norme sui brevetti e sulla protezione della proprietà intellettuale rischia, infatti, di impedire l’immissione sul mercato di equivalenti generici dei nuovi farmaci e in molti Paesi gravemente colpiti dalla pandemia spesso le multinazionali non si preoccupano nemmeno di far arrivare in nuovi farmaci.

28.11.2006 Gli effetti dello tsunami continuano nonostante l'onda sismica sia passata da tempo. Oltre 2000 i bambini che vivono negli orfanotrofi in Indonesia hanno almeno uno dei genitori vivi e più dell’85% del totale dei minori è stato messo negli istituti dopo il dicembre 2004. "Questo dato indica chiaramente che la catastrofe naturale del 2004, più che creare degli orfani, ha avuto in realtà un forte impatto sulla capacità delle famiglie di prendersi cura dei propri figli" - denuncia Save the Children. E Asianews riporta che nello Sri Lanka dopo lo tsunami il governo ha costruito grandi alberghi, ma non aiuta i piccoli pescatori, mentre aumenta l'invasione dei pescherecci stranieri.
