The Big Ask
28.04.2006 All the major political parties say climate change is the biggest threat we face. They all have ambitious targets for cutting the main cause of it - carbon dioxide gas. Yet emissions of carbon dioxide keep on rising. Ask your MP to support a new law to cut carbon dioxide every year by 3% from now on.

26.04.2006 Sitting on thin foam mattresses sprawled across a crude cement floor in drought-stricken northern Kenya, dozens of mothers nurse emaciated babies as flies hover around mosquito netting. The odours of medicine and sweat mixed with the stench of disease hang in the foetid air under the iron roof of this hospital annex. Set up to take in overflow from the packed paediatric ward, it too is filled with infants howling and batting futilely at feeding tubes in their nostrils.

These are the latest victims of a drought that has put more than 11-million people across East Africa at risk of starvation, 3,5-million of them in Kenya, where recent heavy rains have exacerbated already dire conditions.

11.04.2006 Ilmastonmuutos on aikamme suurimpia uhkia, painottaa ympäristöjärjestö Maan ystävät.

Firewood: just one example of biofuel
10.04.2006 from Climate Change Action blog:
Touted by some as an energy panacaea, biofuels raise as many problems as they solve. What matters is the energy and greenhouse gas balance. Almuth Ernsting's blog shows it's not just about carbon.
