Kalifornian kuvernööri Arnold Schwarzenegger vahvisti 27. syyskuuta Yhdysvaltojen ensimmäisenä osavaltiona suunnitelman kasvihuonekaasupäästöjen vähentämiseksi. Tavoitteena on vähentää osavaltion päästöjä vuoden 1990 tasolle vuoteen 2020 mennessä, mikä tarkoittaa 25 prosenttia nykyisistä päästöistä.
