Global warming could impact one billion people, warned Rajendra K. Pachauri of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) at the opening of the largest-ever gathering of world leaders on climate change. Heads of states, top officials, civil society and business leaders from over 150 nations attended the high-level meeting on 24 September.

WASHINGTON, Sep 19 (OneWorld) - Activists and foreign policy experts held a public forum this weekend to launch what they hope will be "a combined international movement" to respond to the threats of climate change and the depletion of oil and other cheap energy sources.

Lontoossa toimiva tutkimuslaitos International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) arvioi ilmastonmuutoksen yhdeksi maailman pahimmista turvaallisuusuhista. IISS:n mukaan ilmastonmuutos tulee väistämättä vaikuttamaan ympäristöön, talouteen ja turvallisuuteen.

Dopo le note critiche dei giorni scorsi, sono positivi i commenti delle associazioni ambientaliste alla fine della "Conferenza nazionale sui cambiamenti climatici" che si è conclusa oggi a Roma. "Il documento prodotto dalla Conferenza pienamente alle aspettative del Wwf sia in termini di contenuto che di impegni capaci di sostenere le richieste della comunità internazionale" - afferma il Wwf. Positivo anche il commento di Legambiente che sottolinea però come "domani si capirà se questo importante dibattito ha prodotto o meno un miglioramento delle politiche di contrasto ai cambiamenti climatici e per una maggiore sostenibilità ". Nei giorni scorsi le associazioni avevano diffuso una nota nella quale denunciavano "la mancanza in Italia di un piano serio per tagliare le emissioni di CO2 incentivando lo sviluppo delle energie rinnovabili". Intanto l'Enel sta invece investendo nella costruzione di reattori nucleari nell’Europa dell’Est per poter poi importare energia in Italia - denuncia la campagna "Staccalaspina".

E' iniziata a Roma presso la Fao la "Conferenza nazionale sui cambiamenti climatici" indetta dal ministero dell’Ambiente. La Conferenza intende esaminare principalmente "i problemi riguardanti le modificazioni delle vulnerabilità indotte dai cambiamenti climatici in Italia e le possibili opzioni di adattamento". Ma il cambiamento climatico sta risvegliando il nucleare - avverte la Campagna "Staccalaspina" che segnala come l'Enel si sta preparando a produrre energia elettrica nell’Europa dell’Est e a reimportarla in Italia: la ditta italiana sta investendo 1,8 miliardi di euro nella costruzione di reattori nucleari in Slovacchia e sta per investire altri 7 miliardi nel nucleare in Bulgaria. La Campagna vuole far pressione sull'Enel affinché riconverta i suoi investimenti dal nucleare all’energia pulita e rinnovabile.

Environmental group made coalition for declare Bali principle of Climate Justice at August 28th, 2002 because climate change threatens to be a diaster for the world's poor, yet has been caused by the richer countries of the world. Would that coalition back at December 2007!

Amid growing concern over the slow pace of international negotiations, the United Nations has called an extraordinary meeting of world leaders to discuss climate change. Considering that climate change has enormous implications for the world economy and international development, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has invited all the heads of state to come to New York to attend the high-level conference.
