Metsäpaloja on tänä kesänä syttynyt poikkeuksellisen paljon kuivan ja lämpimän sään takia. Etelä-Suomen metsien monimuotoisuusohjelmalla suojellaan Palaneita metsiä. Palaneen puun myyntiarvo on vähäinen, mutta metsäpaloilla on tärkeä osa luonnon monimuotoisuuden säilymisessä, painottaa WWF-Suomi.

Luonnonsuojelujärjestö WWF:n aktiivit kunnostavat parhaillaan 50-vuotisjuhlaansa viettävää Linnasaaren kansallispuistoa. Suojelualue koostuu yli 130 saaresta, joissa aktiivit ovat puuhastelleet metsän, luontopolkujen ja niittyjen parantamiseksi. Tänä kesänä WWF järjestää vielä kolme talkooleiriä, Haminassa, Ahvenanmaalla ja Virossa.

THERE used to be a dire prediction that Nepal was going to become desert. This seemed quite logical amid a dangerous phenomenon occurring then in which the crucial forest cover was going through a massive clearance for fuelwood, fodder and money-earning timber. But despite the foretelling of the worst, nothing of the dire scale happened. The conservation successes of Nepal proved the dangerous prediction false.
