24.03.2004 Fifteen years ago today the ExxonValdez spilled 11 million gallons of oil into the waters off Alaska. Greenpeace calls for a more honest accounting of the long-term results of that disaster, while other groups warn that it could happen again, especially if the Arctic is opened up to further oil exploration.

Air Passenger Tax in UK would not hit poor
Increasing Air Passenger Duty in next Wednesday's budget would mainly hit better off people rather than the less well off, and would raise over £400 million which could be spent on local buses and better trains, Friends of the Earth have claimed.

Road tax for gas-guzzlers must go up
The UK government should increase road tax for gas-guzzling cars in next week's Budget, Friends of the Earth say. Government research shows that this would prompt 72 per cent of car buyers to choose a vehicle with lower emissions.
