En 2002 et en 2003, le Canada a été le seul des 53 pays membres de la Commission des droits de l'homme de l'ONU à voter contre la reconnaissance du droit humain à l'eau. Le 22 mars, quatre ONG canadiennes, dont le Conseil des Canadiens, se sont réunies sur la colline parlementaire à l'occasion de la Journée mondiale de leau afin de contester cette position du gouvernement canadien.

The Pesticide Action Network is looking for support in efforts to stopping the chemical and pesticide industries from undermining the POPs Treaty, which seeks to eliminate 12 toxic chemicals that end up on your dinner plate. Legislation currently circulating in Congress would make things worse, says PANNA.

Opposition to the Bush Administration's efforts to substantially delay a scheduled cleanup of mercury contamination gained momentum today when MoveOn.org joined forces with the Environmental Working Group (EWG), the Learning Disabilities Association, and former EPA Administrator Carol Browner at a Washington, D.C. press conference denouncing the Bush plan.

Fifteen years ago today the ExxonValdez spilled 11 million gallons of oil into the waters off Alaska. Greenpeace calls for a more honest accounting of the long-term results of that disaster, while other groups warn that it could happen again, especially if the Arctic is opened up to further oil exploration.

The natural and tourist protected areas in Albania are in danger of degradation and partial or full damaging. A total of 384 areas in Albania are considered for the special protection status, because of their biodiversity and the natural and cultural wealth that they offer.

A coalition of leading environmental groups called on the Bush administration Tuesday to stop undermining the Clean Water Act, whose purpose is to ensure the health of American rivers, lakes, and wetlands. To date, the groups said, the administration has been "pushing an industry-backed agenda that places the health of our waters and the public at risk."

WASHINGTON, DC, March 17, 2004 (ENS) - A coalition of medical, nursing, public health, labor, and religious organizations representing millions of Americans are speaking out in opposition to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new mercury rule because it threatens children's health. The policy position was announced Tuesday in Washington by Physicians for Social Responsibility, a national public health advocacy organization.
