31.03.2005 The Action Committee to Save the Bay of Vlora organized a protest, on March 27, 2005, against the planned construction of thermoelectric power plant in the area of Vlora. The protests were joined by numerous environmental organizations from all over the country.

Coca Cola - 'We Are Sorry, But This Company Is Ethically Out of Order'
30.03.2005 Activists accuse Coca-Cola of creating severe water shortages in India, polluting the soil and groundwater, and selling drinks containing dangerously high levels of pesticides, among other crimes. In Colombia, the company is charged with complicity in the murder, torture and intimidation of labor union organizers at its bottling plants. A speaking tour to hold Coca-Cola accountable will take place throughout the month of April in the U.S.

24.03.2005 In picking scientist and long-time Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) employee Steve Johnson to lead the EPA, analysts hoped President Bush was signaling that the government agency would consider science above politics in environmental decisions. Clean Air Watch president Frank O'Donnell writes, however, that the White House continues to place industry interests first.

Vlora environment in danger from the planned thermoelctric powerplants.
24.03.2005 The environmentalists of Vlora, a coastal city in Albania, are among the first environmentalists concerned of the construction of 5 thermoelectric power plants in the bay of Vlora, the construction of the refinery which will produce 36 million tones of petrol per year, the construction of petrol deposits of ARMO as well as of the terminal of the AMBO project that, every day, will furnish the tankers with 300.000 tones petroleum and its by-product.

17.03.2005 The U.S. agency charged with protecting the environment passed a new mercury pollution rule on Tuesday that does little to decrease levels of the toxin in the atmosphere and would even cause sharp rises in some states, say environmentalists, expecting lawsuits to challenge the rule.

Is no legislation better than bad legislation?
11.03.2005 "This is an easy no vote for me," said the lone Republican to oppose President Bush's "Clear Skies" initiative, which many say is little more than an industry handout. "I am very comfortable that existing legislation protects our environment and our air better than Clear Skies." The next big industry/environmental fight could come over proposed mercury emissions rules, expected next week.

Clear Skies?
09.03.2005 The Senate committee on the environment is expected to take up President Bush's highly controversial 'Clear Skies' legislation Wednesday, but Clean Air Watch president Frank O'Donnell warns that the bill is little more than a smokescreen, providing big-time breaks to the biggest polluters and putting off cleanup until at least the mid-2020s.
