“Novi list” daily reports that the Croatian Health Insurance Bureau decided to allocate about 13 percent higher support for annual needs for medicines to boys up to seven years of age than to girls of the same age group. According to the Bureau, the decision was based on actual data on use of medicines for 2006, which shows that boys simply use more medicines than girls.

Kako je prenio Novi list, odlukom Hrvatskog zavoda za zdravstveno osiguranje (HZZO), dječacima mlađim od sedam godina za lijekove na godišnjoj razini pripada oko trinaest posto veći iznos nego djevojčicama iste dobi. To je pak, kako navode u HZZO, utemeljeno na realnim podacima o potrošnji lijekova u prošloj godini, prema kojima su dječaci naprosto trošili više.

Nobel-palkitun taloustieteilijä Amartya Senin mielestä Intian talouden kasvu ei tuo helpotusta intialaisten aliravitsemuksesta, anemiasta ja peruskoulutuksen puutteista kärsivien lasten ahdinkoon. Hallituksen on panostettava enemmän koulutukseen ja terveydenhuoltoon, jotta ongelmat voidaan ratkaista.

The state of California in the United States has for a while been the standard bearer of policy measures that reduce state responsibility in critical areas that were typically the responsibility of public provision earlier. The privatisation of electricity utilities was one infamous example, in which California led the world and ended up providing a textbook case of how not to privatise power distribution.
