Containing HIV

To meet the challenges of the increasing number of HIV/AIDS cases in Manipur, the Congress has started a campaign to create awareness among the people.

27.09.2006 There are more than hundreds of male sex workers (MSWs) operate in Lahore. Although the precise number of men who have sex with men (MSM) in Lahore is unknown, according to the Pakistan National AIDS Programme, they number around 38,000. Under the country's Islamic laws, such behaviour is strictly illegal and the result is that levels of awareness about the risk of HIV infection among male sex workers is extremely low.

27.09.2006 With over 100,000 people contracting sexually transmitted diseases every year, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Employers Federation of Ceylon (EFC) have decided to educate working adults on HIV/AIDS without upsetting cultural sensibilities, through a US funded factory improvement programme.

26.09.2006 OneWorld Radio in collaboration with UNICEF are hosting a contest for radio features and public service announcements to raise HIV/AIDS awareness and highlight young peopleÂ’s participation in the media. The contest highlights OneWorld/UNICEFÂ’s ongoing commitment to youth participation and development.

19.09.2006 Jammu and Kashmir has a new problem to contend with now - a sharp rise in HIV/AIDS cases. While officials claim there are 745 such cases in the insurgency-hit state, unofficial estimates peg the number at 25,000.

The International definition of trafficking recognizes a boarder spectrum of abuses, so in India there is a growing recognition that many previously accepted forms of exploitative labor, child labor, recruitment practices in sex industry, and servile marriages may in fact be forms of human trafficking and
infringements of the human rights of the individuals involved.
