30.06.2005 Dans le cadre de la XXXVe Assemblée générale de l’Organisation des États américains (OEA), qui a commencé aujourd’hui à Ft. Lauderdale, aux États-Unis, la Coalition internationale des organisations pour les droits humains dans les Amériques a adressé aux pays membres de l’OEA une série de recommandations sur des questions prioritaires touchant les droits humains. Dans la déclaration qu’elle a émise, la Coalition a signalé que la faiblesse des institutions démocratiques ainsi que l’exclusion et les inégalités sociales contribuent grandement à la fragilité de la démocratie dans les Amériques.

RwandaÂ’s Chief Prosecutor, Jean de Dieu Mucyo, Welcomed the Canadian Court Decision
30.06.2005 On grounds that he promoted hatred, genocide, and crimes against humanity, a Canadian court voted unanimously to expel Leon Mugesera, forcing him to stand trial in Rwanda. Jean de Dieu Mucyo, Rwanda's chief prosecutor, said the decision was a major step in efforts to deport others implicated in the genocide that killed nearly a million people.

Forgotten So Soon?
29.06.2005 UzbekistanÂ’s Andijan massacre has yet to be independently investigated, largely because of Washington infighting; Rumsfeld's Defense Department is blocking an inquiry called for by Rice's State Department, explains veteran jounalist Ahmed Rashid. By doing so, the U.S. is giving Uzbek president Islam Karimov exactly what he wants: dwindling media coverage and a chance to slip off the international agenda.

Mukhtaran Bibi Was Once a Victim, Now SheÂ’s an Advocate
29.06.2005 In 2002, Pakistani woman Mukhtaran Bibi--also known as Mukhtaran Mai--was gang raped on her village elders' orders. The men convicted in her case have since been released. As the country's Supreme Court finally takes up her case, Amnesty asks you to take action and encourage Pakistan to protect women's rights.

Stamp out torture
27.06.2005 As the world marked the International Day in Support for Victims of Torture on Sunday, the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) released a new report showing Asian countries that sanction torture are facing growing criticism at home and abroad. As greater access to information fuels protests across the continent, AHRC demands torture be a recognized--and enforced--crime in every country.

24.06.2005 As an unprecedented coalition of civil society organisations appeals to the UN to investigate recent events in Zimbabwe, the outspoken Archbishop of Bulawayo has won an international humanitarian award. As well as criticising Robert Mugabe, Archbishop Pius Ncube has called on the British government to be more tolerant of asylum-seekers from Zimbabwe.
