MAPUTO, July 30 (IPS) - Over 1,000 Mozambicans, including children, are trafficked to South Africa every year where they are forced into prostitution or to provide free or cheap labour. In response, Mozambique's government last week approved a new law which will make human trafficking a crime punishable with long prison sentences.

Pakistan 's Superintendent of Central Prison in the southern port city of Karachi spends sleepless nights trying to figure out how to save the life of 107 inmates - all of who face the death sentence. Human rights organisations in the country chose to remain mum on the issue.

Komisi Penanggulangan AIDS Provinsi Papua menolak keras rencana pemasangan microchip ke Orang dengan HIV/AIDS (ODHA) sebagai cara memutus mata rantai penyebaran HIV di Papua. Selain melecehkan, ide itu jelas melanggar hak asasi manusia.

Il possibile trasferimento dall'India a Myanmar (Birmania) di un elicottero militare contenente tecnologia e componenti provenienti da almeno sei paesi dell'Unione europea (Ue) minaccia di compromettere l'embargo deciso dalla stessa Ue nei confronti della fornitura di armi al paese asiatico. Un rapporto diffuso oggi da un gruppo di Organizzazioni non governative (Ong) europee e internazionali, tra cui Rete Disarmo, Saferworld e Amnesty International, cita fonti credibili secondo le quali il governo indiano sta per trasferire a Myanmar l'Advanced Light Helicopter (Alh), un elicottero d'attacco prodotto in India ma che non potrebbe funzionare senza componenti essenziali di provenienza europea tra cui quelle di Belgio, Francia, Germania, Italia, Regno Unito e Svezia.
