At a national Other Campaign gathering in Mexico City on May 29, Subcomandante Marcos called on members of the Other Campaign across the country to gather in Mexico City on June 30 for two days of debate and, on election day, Sunday July 2, to interrupt into the calendar of the elite [los de arriba] with civil and peaceful organizing and mobilizations.

APC condemns the unjust detention of free speech bloggers and journalists in Egypt. Alaa Seif Al-Islam, a seasoned blogger and APC colleague, is one of four Egyptian online diarists being held in detention for criticising the current regime since May 7. In addition, APC has heard disturbing reports about violent actions taken by state security against several of the bloggers who were released from custody last week, only to be subsequently re-arrested. Authorities prevented human rights lawyers from visiting the bloggers who had been beaten and tortured on Thursday May 25.

Nepal's Parliament has unanimously voted to strip King Gyanendra of his right to veto laws, ensuring a purely ceremonial role for the once powerful monarch.

As reported by the media, the Members of the Sabor (Croatian parliament) from the national minorities could revoke their support fot he changes and amendments in the Criminal Code proposed by the Government, if hate-crimes are not included in the text of proposed amendments.

The rebels, who teamed up with opposition parties to chase King Gyanendra from power in April, and now swear they have given up their decade-long guerrilla war, pulled (and pushed) tens of thousands of people into Kathmandu for their first rally here in three years.
