Human Rights Watch, an independent NGO, released its World Report 2007, disclosing facts on human rights developments in 2006 in more than 75 nations. The report enclosed articles on the European Union, freedom of expression since 9/11, the plight of migrant domestic workers, and a human rights agenda for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.

Transparency International's recent global survey on corruption in judicial systems says 77% Indians believe the judiciary is corrupt. Widespread bribery and denial of fair and impartial trials have heightened people's perception of corruption.

A new report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) titled Equality At Work: Tackling Challenges At Work, released on May 10, comments that untouchability may have been abolished but caste still determines the economic and social status of dalits who face severe discrimination in getting jobs.

WASHINGTON, May 9 (IPS) - In the run-up to the March 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Pentagon planned to create a 'Rapid Reaction Media Team' (RRMT) designed to ensure control over major Iraqi media while providing an Iraqi 'face' for its efforts, according to a 'White Paper' obtained by the independent National Security Archive (NSA) which released it Tuesday.

The government has received more than 75 percent of foreign aid out of the Rs.100 billion anticipated for the year 2007 with the signing of agreements to receive Rs.72 billion within the first four months of the year.
