Nearly two thirds of Macedonian citizens feel the need for a local television station. At the same time, they believe that the financing should come from the state, i.e. municipal budget. Over a half of the citizens are not prepared to secure funds from the family budget to finance local media, although 79 percent of them said they need local information.

The dez.org Art Group organized the Open Software Week at the Belgrades Ozon Gallery. In addition to presentation by members of dez.org, the Open Software Week included a number of events, workhops, lectures that provided insight in the development, possibilities and character of open software as a social phenomenon. The association, education, freedom of action and activism are some of the aspects discussed during the Open Software Week.

Afghanistans new law on mass media was launched last week in Kabul by the Minister of Information Culture and Tourism, Said Makhtoum Raheen. The law reforms the country's existing press law and also guarantees freedom of expression in the country.

UNESCO held a workshop to teach south Asian community media producers the novel technique of creating audio visual content through digital multimedia formats. The workshop was held in Kolar District, Karnataka State in South India, close to the Namma Dhwani cable community media centre, one of Indias first community radio stations.

SAN FRANCISCO, Mar 3 (OneWorld) - Groups ranging from gun owners to aid charities and cancer researchers have entwined to oppose the world's biggest Internet service provider in its plan to charge a fee for email--a move the groups say would put nonprofit groups and small businesses at a disadvantage.

OneWorld South Asia held a six-day learning exchange programme for NGOs that gave participants a practical overview of various ICT initiatives in India. It also gave an insight into various models of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) being put to use in rural India. Achieving sustainability was the key to all the initiatives.
