Mr. Kan-Dapaah Minister of Communications of Ghana announced that Ghana's telecommunication sector has witnessed a dramatic improvement in telecommunications infrastructure in the year 2005 in response to the innovative policies and growing confidence in the management of the sector. Ghana's tele-density now stands at fifteen per cent.

From the expanding reach of broadband to city-wide Wi-Fi networks and the use of internet telephones, trends are developing in Southern and Central Africa and beginning to spread across the continent, says a new report from the London-based Internet company Balancing Act.

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 20 (OneWorld) - Two-thirds of Americans now have Internet access at home, but more than 75 percent of them are worried that the days of free and diverse Web services may be over, according to a survey commissioned by the Consumers Union, Free Press, and Consumer Federation of America.

Reporters Without Borders today called on the international community, especially the United Nations, to persuade the government to rethink its plans to create a Broadcasting Authority with broad powers over radio stations, cable TV and online media, and to increase the cost of a radio broadcasting licence by at least 10 or 20 times.

Canadas International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is pleased to announce plans to create an Open Archive, the first among Canadian research funding organizations. The Open Archive will provide full access over the Internet to IDRCs rich research archive. In addition to making information more freely available, this initiative will provide IDRC-funded researchers with a much-needed outlet to publish and showcase their work.
