The 2006 Budget of the City of Rijeka, which is on the todayÂ’s agenda of the City Council, proposes reduced cultural budget by 18%. The reduction refers, above all, to financing of cultural programmes, while the funding available for salaries and infrastructural costs of public cultural institutions remains at the same level.

Twenty young people from Massachusetts are getting to reach out to and bond with peers in Afghanistan. The project was presented to the community at "A Night of Peace," where students shared pen-pal letters, photos, and presented an anthology of their writing on Afghanistan.

Where do I live? The “Through My Eyes” Calendar for 2006, prepared by UNICEF and “Lindart” organization, provides an original answer to this question. The calendar was promoted on Friday afternoon in the National Gallery of Arts and it shows the children point of view on living conditions, through photographs of segments of their lives. The presentation was held under the patronage of Jozefina Topalli, the Speaker of the Parliament.

Last Thursday, December 15, the Coalition of Youth Association (KUM) organized a debate “Independent Culture and the Youth Centre”, aiming to discuss the current status of independent culture in Split, the problem with space and the use of space resources of the Youth Centre.

Mounir Bouchenaki, Deputy Director General of UNESCO, will present Ljubo Beslic, Mayor of Mostar, with the UNESCO certificate on entry of Stari Most and the historic quarters of Mostar into the Protected Cultural Heritage List. The official ceremony is planned for Saturday, December 17.

Peace x Peace's Global Network uses the internet to link "circles" of U.S. women with women's circles around the world to inform, collaborate, and serve as mentors to each other. One of the newest circles is drawing on Kenyan women's natural tendency to self-organize and helping them overcome societal taboos to discuss issues like female circumcision and AIDS.
