Film festival showcasing South Asian culture
26.10.2007 The second South Asian Film Festival is currently on in New Delhi. Starting from October, 24, the festival will go on until October 30. A total of 45 films, including mainstream cinema, documentaries and short films are going to be screened.

22.10.2007 Rare manuscripts, maps, books, musical scores, sound recordings, films, prints and photographs will all be available online thanks to an agreement signed between UNESCO and the United States Library of Congress. The World Digital Library will also aim to build digital library capabilities in developing countries.

22.10.2007 Kamla Bhasin, feminist activist, author, and poet, was a jury member at the recent WomenÂ’s Tribunal on Poverty, held on October 17, the International Day for Eradication of Poverty, in the Indian capital of New Delhi. OneWorld South Asia spoke to her on the need for a separate space for women to raise their voice against poverty. Kamla is also Advisor to South Asian Network of Gender Activists and Trainers (SANGAT).

19.10.2007 Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) reports illiteracy and poverty as main perpetrators of child marriages, leading to domestic violence in 70% of such cases. Young girls married to elderly men are bound to the consequences of such customs that hold elopement as both unlawful and taboo.
