30.03.2005 About 200 Nepali journalists marched through Kathmandu demanding restoration of press freedom and the release of 13 journalists held after King Gyanendra imposed emergency and suspended civil liberties.

16.03.2005 Deux journaliste de la chaîne de télévision satellitaire du Parti démocratique du Kurdistan (PDK), Kurdistan-TV, ont été tués en moins d'une semaine. Houssam Hilal Sarsam, cameraman, a été abattu le 14 mars 2005 à Mossoul (380 km au nord de Bagdad) tandis que Laik Ibrahim, journaliste, a été abattu le 10 mars à Kirkouk (250 km au nord de Bagdad).

PEN International, l'UIE, ainsi que de nombreuses autres ONG internationales comme Amnesty international ou Human Rights Watch, sont présentes en Turquie afin d'assister aux procès de l'éditeur Ragip Zarakolu et de l'écrivain Fikret Baskaya. Les deux procès ont lieu le 2 mars 2005 respectivement à Istanbul et à Ankara.
