The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is dismayed by the assault, detention, and harassment of local journalists by the security forces and members of the interim government in Bangladesh, that have resulted in widespread self-censorship, particularly among broadcast outlets.

International Press Freedom and Freedom of Expression Mission to Nepal have welcomed the endorsement of the Right to Information Act and Working Journalists Act amendments, in Nepal. They also said that it commends those journalists and media that have advocated for legislative reform and defended press freedoms.

Maoist labour union in Nepal has prevented two privately-owned national dailies, "The Himalayan Times" and "Annapurna Post", from being printed and distributed. Reporters Without Borders has voiced concern about a growing threat to press freedom in Nepal.

The government of Pakistan is condemned by the opposition for withholding the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Amendment Ordinance. The government is accused of having mala fide intentions that the ordinance had been withheld to put pressure on the electronic media to agree to a code of conduct of its interest.

Gorkhapatra Corporation, government-owned media group in Nepal, has dismissed forty-nine journalists who were working there for the past 11 years. The President of Federation of Nepalese Journalists condemned the decision which is based on the political interest of the management.
