The Zambian Supreme Court has upheld the 2004 High Court decision not to deport satirical columnist Roy Clarke, a British national permanently resident in Zambia, over a column published in the privately owned Post newspaper on first January 2004, allegedly insulting President Levy Mwanawasa.

Activists in Pakistan have come heavily on an ordinance to curb electronic crime. The governments move of prohibiting the use of Internet and SMS is being seen as curtailment of freedom of expression and civil liberties. Pakistanis were extensively using blog sites to criticise the state of affairs in the country.

On January 5 2008, two editors of the weekly Kiswahili newspaper - Mwanahalisi - were attacked and beaten by three anonymous machete-wielding (double edged bush knives) attackers at their media house in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam.
