Last week, the regional women portal www.ekviva.net was official launched. At the moment, the portal gathers information on women issues, as well as civil society topics, in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro. It has an international editorial office with editors sitting in Zagreb, Split, Sarajevo, Tuzla and Belgrade.

Indian public sector majors BSNL and MTNL have promised to deliver a New Year gift to those subscribing to their internet services. Bandwidth on entry level ADSL broadband connections provided through telephone lines are to be raised from 256 kbps to 2 Mbps at no extra cost to the customer.

The third Freedom to Creativity Festival of Free Culture, Science and Technology starts today, January 22, in Zagreb. The Festival, organized by the Multimedia Institute, will end January 27, 2007. The main topic of this years festival will be radio frequency spectrum as a public good, the open communication standards and civic participation in creation of media.

A five days training programme on computer applications and its effective usage in advocacy and communications at rural level was organised for the filed functionaries of the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) on 13 17 January 2007 at Jehangirabad in Barabanki district in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Metamorphosis and Free Software non-governmental organizations demand from the Government to enable the citizens to choose, if they want, to be trained in the use of free and open source software, for which there is great interest in the public. According to the two organizations, the FOSS alternatives, such as Open Office, in addition to providing the same services as the proprietary software used by the Government, offer other benefits, important in the current economic situation in the country.

With the aim to strengthen the fight against HIV/AIDS on the internet, the Iskorak Centre for Rights of Sexual and Gender Minorities established the AIDS.HR internet portal. Having in mind the general population in Croatia, the contents were adapted for average citizens, teen-agers, and other uneducated persons with proclivities towards risky behaviour.

On.net is one of the most prominent internet service providers now trying to move into other areas of telecommunications. It has already signed the interconnection agreement with incumbent operator of fixed land-lines, Macedonian Telecommunications. Also, On.net has been involved in a variety of corporate responsibility operations and activities. We talked to Predrag Cemerikic, the General Manager of On.net.

OneWorld South Asia held a five-day training programme for young people on computer applications and its effective usage in advocacy and communications at the rural level. The capacity building programme was held for the field functionaries of the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), which is a body of Indian youth, at New Delhi from 18 22 December 2006.
