African journal of ICT is organising 5 days tutorial and training workshops on VoIP, IPTV, Mobile TV, Softswitch, real-time protocols and IP over Power Line communications at The Bell Rosen Cape Town, Western Province, South Africa from Jul 09, 2007 - Jul 13, 2007. The workshops will impart skills in IP and digital communications based on experienced industry practitioners and cover technologies, strategies, billing, marketing, regulation and implementations.

A recent study by a consultancy firm in India notes a drop in English language online browsing to 41% among its 30 million net users. More than half the Indians who use the net live outside its metropolitan cities, in Tier II and Tier III cities. The use of Open Source Software has helped internet and telecom penetration into smaller towns.

The United Nations Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for Development has launched the website for the Forum on Youth and ICT for Development, to be held on 24-26 September in Geneva, Switzerland. It aims to involve youth in discussions with policymakers and concerned citizens and to encourage their full participation in society through the use of ICT.

Sri Lankas Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), in partnership with the Colombo University medical faculty, will provide rural patients with remote medical consultation and treatment. A rural hospital in the islands north-central region has been set up with computer facilities and a broadband link to particularly deal with people suffering genetic disorders.

Norti Bai is the only woman in her village who can operate the computer. At the ripe age of 60, she manages the database and functioning of the internet café at Barefoot College, Tilonia, in Rajasthan, an Indian state where girls have always been ignored in favour of sons.

Sakshi Trust and ActionAid have produced a Right to Information guide for people with disability to inform them on their rights and entitlements. The book mentions various benefits entitled to the disabled and directs them in drafting an RTI application.
