Journalists and editors from several Pristina and Belgrade media gathered yesterday at the Belgrade-Pristina Media Dialogue meeting, organized in Belgrade under the auspices of the Civil Dialogue. The participants in the event estimated that the media from Kosovo and Serbia should cooperate and exchange information.

Police in Zambia have threatened to charge radio host and commentator Anthony Mukwita with sedition after a June 10 broadcast on privately owned Radio Phoenix in which he read an anonymous fax criticizing the government.

Journalists in Pakistan have reportedly filed dozens of access to information requests in the past six months as a result of workshops on press freedom organised by the Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF). Since December 2004, PPF has held workshops in seven communities throughout the country to train journalists on press freedom monitoring and free expression advocacy.

The arrival of the Media that Matters Film Festival in Crawfordsville, Indiana recently, sparked a battle of the op-eds. One community member criticized the films for "deriding everything from President George W. Bush to the eating of meat." Others praised the selection for "encourag[ing] discussion and dialogue by presenting diverse opinions" and bringing an "opportunity to stretch us beyond ourselves."

The decision by the Indian government to allow foreign newspapers to print facsimile editions in the country has been hailed by journalists and editors who feel that this move would widen the news choice for Indian readers. It would allow foreign newspapers to introduce their fascimile editions to the Indian reader.

On 14 June 2005, Lusaka police questioned Anthony Mukwita, a Radio Phoenix "Let the People Talk" programme host, over a fax anonymously sent, which he had read on air during the 10 June edition of the programme. The fax accused the government of condoning corruption and warned that the country might slip into anarchy as a result.

At a Baghdad conference this week, over 200 Iraqi journalists demanded greater press freedom in the war-torn country. Working under dangerous conditions, Iraqi and foreign journalists shared their experiences, including being targeted by both insurgents and Coalition forces.

A group of 24 journalism students from across Bosnia-Herzegovina were the first to participate in the seminar entitled "Reporting from the BiH State Parliamentary Assembly". This seminar involved a series of lectures regarding ethics and self-regulation in journalism and specifically, the practice of reporting from a parliamentary press gallery.
