SEE Radio Network, the ALTER MEDIA association of local radio stations and the Organization Board of NEUM 2006, the Second Regional Radio Festival issued a Call for Application of works for the Second Regional Radio Festival. The Festival will take place in Neum, B&H, October 25-29, 2006.

The Childrens Human Rights Center in Albania CRCA, held in the premises of Hotel Tirana International a public ceremony to award three journalists with the Child Rights Media Award 2005, and to introduce the official opening of Child Rights Media Award 2006. The event was funded by Olof Palme International Center and SIDA Sweden.

OneWorld Radio in collaboration with UNICEF are hosting a contest for radio features and public service announcements to raise HIV/AIDS awareness and highlight young peoples participation in the media. The contest highlights OneWorld/UNICEFs ongoing commitment to youth participation and development.

The Group of Ministers (GoM), which has been assigned the task of ironing out differences within the Union Cabinet on amendments to the community radio regime, has cleared the changes proposed by the Union Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry. This includes the contentious issue of allowing advertisements on such radio stations.

Journalists in Afghanistan are facing increasing pressure and threats for doing their jobs, mainly from government authorities and regional warlords, the countrys leading media association - Afghanistan Independent Journalists Association (AIJA) - warned in the capital, Kabul.

Reporters Without Borders voiced dismay today about the silence with which the Pakistani authorities, including information minister Mohammad Ali Durrani, have greeted the findings of the two reports they have received about the kidnapping and murder of Hayatullah Khan, a journalist based in North Waziristan who worked for the Urdu-language daily Ausaf and the European Press Photo Agency (EPA).

The contest highlights OneWorld/UNICEFs ongoing commitment to youth participation and development. The contest will also offer an additional opportunity to promote OneWorld/UNICEFs HIV/AIDS campaign Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS, in which UNICEF played a critical coordinating role.

Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) has awarded this years international press freedom award to Hayatullah Khan of Pakistan along with other journalists. An exception was made to honour Khan who had been abducted in December 2005 and whose body was found in June 2006.
