29.09.2006 The OSCE Representative on the Freedom of the Media, Miklos Haraszti, and the Head of the OSCE Presence in Albania, Ambassador Pavel Vacek, welcomed today the creation of the Albanian Council on Media Ethics.

27.09.2006 SEE Radio Network, the ALTER MEDIA association of local radio stations and the Organization Board of „NEUM 2006“, the Second Regional Radio Festival issued a Call for Application of works for the Second Regional Radio Festival. The Festival will take place in Neum, B&H, October 25-29, 2006.

26.09.2006 The Children’s Human Rights Center in Albania – CRCA, held in the premises of Hotel Tirana International a public ceremony to award three journalists with the Child Rights Media Award 2005, and to introduce the official opening of Child Rights Media Award 2006. The event was funded by Olof Palme International Center and SIDA Sweden.

The contest highlights OneWorld/UNICEF’s ongoing commitment to youth participation and development.

25.09.2006 The Group of Ministers (GoM), which has been assigned the task of ironing out differences within the Union Cabinet on amendments to the community radio regime, has cleared the changes proposed by the Union Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry. This includes the contentious issue of allowing advertisements on such radio stations.

22.09.2006 Journalists in Afghanistan are facing increasing pressure and threats for doing their jobs, mainly from government authorities and regional warlords, the country’s leading media association - Afghanistan Independent Journalists Association (AIJA) - warned in the capital, Kabul.

22.09.2006 Reporters Without Borders voiced dismay today about the silence with which the Pakistani authorities, including information minister Mohammad Ali Durrani, have greeted the findings of the two reports they have received about the kidnapping and murder of Hayatullah Khan, a journalist based in North Waziristan who worked for the Urdu-language daily Ausaf and the European Press Photo Agency (EPA).

15.09.2006 This "Open Access" Guide, released by the Beyond Access Project, is designed to help education and gender campaigners and coalitions work more effectively with the media to promote gender-equitable education.

13.09.2006 The Macedonian Institute for the Media (MIM) and the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) announced the start of the selection process for the media outlet that made the greatest contribution to the development of civil society in 2006.

12.09.2006 The Centre for Development of NGOs (CRNGO) and the Centre for Civil Education (CGO) reacted on the photograph published by “Vijesti” daily newspaper, presenting Branislav Calic, Chairperson of Radio and Television Montenegro Council (RTCG Council), at a debate of the DPS SDP coalition in Niksic, during the election campaign.

07.09.2006 The Media and Communication Group of the India Social Forum 2006, WSF-India is holding a half day seminar on Tuesday, 12 September 2006 in New Delhi. The seminar - Media, Politics and Solidarity - is being held at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies 29, Rajpur Road, Delhi at 2-5 PM.

04.09.2006 Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) has awarded this year’s international press freedom award to Hayatullah Khan of Pakistan along with other journalists. An exception was made to honour Khan who had been abducted in December 2005 and whose body was found in June 2006.
