He mentions that the protest at the Hong Kong clearly passes on the message that the developing and least developing countries need more policy space in the negotiation process. If it is denied, people will protest in more violent ways because unfair trade directly affects the livelihood of the individual, which provokes them to raise their voice. An increasing number of Chinese citizens are voicing their frustration over corruption, religious persecution, environmental degredation, and the vast socio-economic gap between urban and rural populations, says the Asia America Initiative. Although largely uncoordinated, the movement is attracting the support of urban intellectuals and legal experts.

Earlier this year a debt cancellation package was agreed for 18 of the world's most impoverished countries, but now the IMF has announced a final test must be passed by six of them to qualify for the January write-off. Africa Action wants you to join them this week in telling the IMF that more delays cost more lives!

Al Gore's new TV venture seeks to redefine mainstream news and entertainment for the 18-34 demographic. Launched in August, the commercial enterprise relies on young and emerging media makers for 30% of its content and, while initial response has been positive, some are worried the for-profit, socially aware outlet could undermine public access and narrow diversity.

Join thousands around the world who have signed this petition asking for the release of four members of the Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT), taken hostage in Iraq on November 26. CPT sends witnesses to conflict areas in the name of peace--its members have been in Iraq since 2002 and were among the first to document abuses in the Abu Ghraib prison.
