Le 27 juin, MSF a ouvert à Aguié son cinquième centre de nutrition thérapeutique au Niger, d'une capacité de 150 lits d'hospitalisation. Mais quinze jours après l'ouverture, le centre affiche déjà complet. Pour faire face à l'afflux d'enfants souffrant de malnutrition grave, il faut doubler le nombre de lits.

The son of a prominent Pakistani human rights activist, himself a committed peace activist, was tortured and killed in November. The investigation into his death is stalled, and human rights advocates have launched a letter-writing campaign to ensure justice is done and the impunity and intimidation is brought to an end.

Fifteen years ago, after discovering carcinogenic solvents in their drinking water, Wisconsin citizens began demanding that nearby Badger Army Ammunition Plant--which was polluting the regionÂ’s water, land, and air--be closed. Today, the clean up continues and the volunteers remain a steady voice for human health.

The FBI has been working hard, gathering files on potential threats to the President under the administration's anti-terrorism laws. But the files weren't all on Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. It has come to light that Greenpeace, the American Civil Liberties Union and a range of domestic critics of George Bush may be the new "axis of evil".

Speaking Tuesday afternoon at the first civil society conference on conflict prevention at the U.N., Timor-Leste President Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao relayed examples of his country's peacebuilding experiences after years of conflict, and pointed out that a government's political will to create policy change is key to conflict prevention.

While the international community encourages Haiti to hold elections by the end of 2005, Haitian activists argue elections would be meaningless and enjoy little participation.
