Thousands of people strong peaceful protest against weapons and armed violence was held yesterday in Skopje, the capitol of Macedonia. The rally was organized as part of the International Action Week Against Small Arms, as well as to mark the death of three and wounding six young people in an internet café, last week.

At the press conference held earlier today, the Civil NGO from Skopje presented the campaign organized to mark the Global week of Action Against Arms (May 22-29). The Campaign will be implemented in cooperation with the UNDP's Partnership for Community Safety and Security; the Caritas France in Macedonia; Cair Municipality; Zgjohu! civil movement (Wake UP!), and "Esnaf" association of artizans and craftsmen from the Old Bazaar in Skopje.

The Supreme Court of India has issued notice to the Indian government to prevent entry of "SS Norway" in its present condition, until the toxic ship is in compliance with the Supreme Court's October 2003 order regarding ship breaking. This was issued in response to an application filed by Ban Asbestos Network of (BANI), a member of the NGO Platform on ship breaking, that seeks to stop the ship's entry in India.

On Monday morning (May 8, 2006) the Anticorruption Coalition has distributed anticorruption posters in the main cities of Kosovo. The poster is part of the campaign implemented by ÇOHU and its partners, aimed to inform the citizens about the risks presented by the incumbent corrupt political structure.

The voters in Macedonia have a new possibility to check their personal data in the Voter Registry. At the www.izbirackispisok.gov.mk, and withing the legally set period from May 5 to May 19, the citizens will be able to check whether they are registered in the Voter Registry and to see at which ballot station they may cast their votes. The website also offers information on the manner in which the citiznes may register, be deleted from the Registry, or change incorrect data in it.

The VIVISECTfest Human Rights Festival will start tomorrow (May 4) in Sarajevo. This year's Sarajevo edition of the Festival is a continuation of the cycle of travelling festivals held in 2005 in Indjija, Belgrade, Kikinda, Tuzla, Sombor, Berlin, Backa Palanka, Novi Becer and Novi Pazar, in cooperation with local partner organizations. The Festival closes on May 7, 2006.
