At a national Other Campaign gathering in Mexico City on May 29, Subcomandante Marcos called on members of the Other Campaign across the country to gather in Mexico City on June 30 for two days of debate and, on election day, Sunday July 2, to “interrupt into the calendar of the elite [los de arriba] with civil and peaceful organizing and mobilizations.”

A new book has been recently launched that shows the way forward on
more...integrated water resources management (IWRM) with suggestions for the key organisational and managerial changes required at the macro and micro levels. The book Charting a New Course: A Strategy for Sustainable Management of India's Water Resources in the 21st Century by GN Kathpalia and Rakesh Kapoor goes beyond the acerbic debate on water resources between the 'pro-environment' groups and NGOs on the one hand and the 'pro-development' engineers, contractors and government officials on the other. Priced at Rs 75, (US $7) the book is Crown size and 64 pages. The World Social Forum (WSF) invites people to its seminar on Are Other Worlds Possible: Focus on Media and Communication at the Indian Women's Press Corps (IWPC) in New Delhi on July 1, 2006. The seminar is an interaction between media persons and the people behind the WSF and will seek to look at the state of Indian media critically.

On the occasion of recent demonstration of hate-speech in Serbian Skupstina (the parliament), when Zoran Krasic, MP from the Serb Radical Party, called Ivana Dulic-Markovic, Minister of Agriculture, an "ustasha" from the pulpit, a group of eight NGOs printed a leaflet to remind the public about previous cases of Radicals' involvement in similar incidents.

After three days of sustained pressure, Indian agriculture and food minister Sharad Pawar met Greenpeace activists at his residence on Friday morning. The minister assured that he would take into account the concerns raised by Greenpeace in the memorandum but will "not influence the Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC)" in the upcoming decision on whether to allow large scale field trials of GM brinjal next month.

On Sunday, June 11, the students Department of Product Design at the Academy of Fine Arts (AFA), in cooperation with visiting artists fom Germany and Canada and the Sarajevo Centre for Contemporary Arts, raised a big DOSTA! logo (5X5 metres), made of black and white balloons. The logo, created in a seven-day workshop held in Sarajevo.

Villagers in Mehdiganj, 20 km from Varanasi have been on an indefinite dharna outside and Coca Cola bottling plant since March 23, 2006 demanding the closure of the plant. The plant, in operation since 1999, has caused a fall in water table to the extent of 50 feet forcing farmers to deepen their tubewells. The farmers fear that if the plant continues to function itÂ’ll soon create a situation where there may not be any water left. In addition the quality of water has also deteriorated. The Dosta! Movement organized, last Saturday, June 3, a protest concert in the “Vilsonovo Setaliste” (Wilson’s Walkabout) in Sarajevo. Initially, the concert was planned to take place on the plateau in front of the Building of Joint Institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina (the B&H Parliament), but the authorities didn’t allow it.
