The Municipality of Tirana organized the Bright Night, a party where no one sleeps. Lighting the night, Tirana enlivened its quarters, streets, public and historical spaces, cinemas, museums and theatres with activities that brought a new perspective to the citys spaces, streets and squares, creating an unusual climate and a party environment.

Over 18000 participants attend the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis. Presidents, prime ministers, ministers as well as representatives of the development, civic and private sector were among the participants. The No Shame action organized yesterday in Zagreb by the Autonomous Womens House Zagreb, B.a.B.e. women human rights group, and the ROSA Centre for women victims of War>, and with participation by the Zenska Soba (Women Room) organization, marked the International Day of Fight against Violence against Women. The topic of the action was the violence against women and the legal and judicial treatment of the criminal offence of rape.

Religious extremism is threatening democratic institutions and freedoms in Bangladesh, and fomenting hatred and violence towards minority ethnic and faith communities, a group of mainly British MPs claimed this week as they established an international civil society network to monitor the country's progress towards compliance with international human rights standards.

Children staged skits to highlight miseries of child beggars and working street children, urging their parents to take care of their offspring by admitting them to the Centre for Street Children to make them useful citizens. The function was arranged by Terre des Hommes (TDH), a Switzerland-based NGO, at the Centre for Street Children here on Tuesday, to observe the Childrens Rights Day.

The polycentric WSF to be held at Karachi in Pakistan, previously planned to take place from January 24th to 29th, 2006, has been delayed by two months. The decision was taken during a meeting of the WSF 2006 Organizing Committee and Pakistani Social Forum National Committee in Lahore, on November 19th. The new date will be decided later.

The Supreme Court Tuesday issued shoe cause notice to the government asking it to furnish in written why they issued the code of conduct for NGOs. The single bench of justice Top Bahadur Magar has given an ultimatum of 15 days for the government to do so.

Maoists have closed down another community school. The Maoists locked Rana Bhuwaneshwari Higher Secondary School in Khadgabhanjyang VDC-5, Nuwakot, along with some other schools in Gaganbhanjyang VDC of the district.

In a major crackdown on employment of child labour, a joint team of the State Labour Department, the Delhi police and the non-governmental organisation, Pratham, rescued close to 500 children from illegal zari units in northeast Delhi.

Several NGOs led by the NGO Federation of Nepal jointly filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court seeking an interim order against implementation of the recently introduced NGO code of conduct. Nine NGOs including the Dalit NGO Federation have argued in their writ that the code of conduct is against the constitution and aims at restricting the rights of the NGOs

Wednesday afternoon, November 17, the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH) invited the press and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for what was to become a marathon of explicit talks challenging the Tunisian government on its human rights record. While heads of states speeches present at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) were pouring in on all TV channels, revolution was just around the corner in another district of Tunis.
